IRVING, Texas (Sept. 16, 2025) - Utah and The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that they will jointly honor 2025 NFF College Football Hall of Fame electee coach Urban Meyer with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments®. The Salute will take place Sept. 20 during the Utes' home football game against Texas Tech, which will kick off at Noon ET on FOX. Prior to the game, Meyer will participate on set in his current role as a college football studio analyst on FOX Sports' Big Noon Kickoff, which will be in Salt Lake City to cover the game.
"Urban Meyer's innovative offenses and relentless drive for success transformed every program he led, producing national championships, historic seasons, and a legacy as one of the most influential coaches in college football history," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "We are thrilled to honor him at Rice-Eccles Stadium as a member of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class."
The NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute program, which began with the inaugural College Football Hall of Fame Class in 1951, has become a hallowed tradition, and to this day the singular events remain the first of numerous activities in the Hall of Fame experience.
During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each electee returns to his respective school to accept a Hall of Fame plaque that will stay on permanent display at the institution. The events take place on the field during a home game, and many Hall of Famers cite the experience as the ultimate capstone to their careers, providing them one more chance to take the field and be recognized in front of their home crowd.
Meyer began his head coaching career at Bowling Green, engineering a dramatic turnaround and posting a 17-6 record during two seasons with the Falcons. He took over at Utah in 2003, leading the Utes to a 22-2 record in two seasons, including their first undefeated season (12-0) since 1930, their first-ever BCS bowl appearance (Fiesta Bowl), and the first back-to-back Mountain West Conference (MWC) titles in league history. The Utes finished No. 21 after the 2003 season with a win in the Liberty Bowl.
The Fiesta Bowl win made history as the first time a team from a non-automatically qualifying BCS conference played in a BCS bowl, earning the Utes the distinction as the inaugural "BCS Buster." The Utes would finish at No. 4 in the final AP Poll after the 2004 season, and quarterback Alex Smith (a 2024 Hall of Fame inductee) was a Heisman finalist and eventual No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Meyer would go on to coach at Florida and Ohio State, winning 85.4 percent of his games (187-32-0),

Meyer, a Toledo, Ohio, native, will become the second Utes head coach inducted into the Hall, joining Ike Armstrong. Alex Smith remains the only Utah player who has been inducted.

Including the 2025 NFF Hall of Fame Class, only 1,111 players and 237 coaches have been inducted into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame from the nearly 5.86 million who have played or coached the game during the past 157 years. In other words, less than two one-hundredths of a percent (0.02%) of the individuals who have played/coached the game have earned this distinction.
