Opponents should be intimidated if they find out that the opposing fullback's nickname is "Earthquake." Bill Enyart was given that nickname by Coach Dee Andros due to his rambling and punishing style of running. He was rarely stopped for a loss and was certain to convert short yardage situations especially in the red zone. Enyart showed that toughness in a game in which he carried the ball 50 times for 299 yards against Utah because Andros was forced to start an inexperienced quarterback. One factor that played into his toughness is that Enyart began his college football career at Oregon State by playing linebacker in 1966. He switched to fullback during the 1967 season when the Beavers were known as the "Giant Killers" eventually earning a No. 7 ranking in the Associated Press Poll at the end of the season. The 1967 "Giant Killers" toppled No. 2 Purdue, No. 1 USC, and tied No. 2 UCLA. Enyart impressively displayed a 135-yard performance on 24 carries in the upset of the top-ranked USC Trojans. Bill is the second Beaver player to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, placed in the top ten in Beavers? history with 492 career rushes for 2,155 yards and 25 scores. The fullback also helped Oregon State to top 15 finishes as a junior and senior. A first-team All-America as a senior, two-time Academic All-America, and two-time All-Pac-8 Conference player, Enyart earned a bachelor's degree in economics with honors from Oregon State in 1969. He was chosen with the first pick in the second round of the 1969 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played three seasons for the Bills and Oakland Raiders. Bill Enyart now lives in Bend, Oregon and does casework for a Medicaid Agency. He is also a member of the Oregon State University Sports Hall of Fame and the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
