Charlie Berry, who captained the 1924 Lafayette eleven and went on to play professional football with the Pottsville Maroons, was named to the final Walter Camp All-America team as an end in 1924. Camp selected Berry , "on account of his remarkable ability to work his way through interference, his uncanny ability to sense the play and his speed down the field." In his four years at Lafayette the Leopards compiled a 29-5-2 record with the 1921 team going undefeated. After his collegiate days he became an all-pro performer with the Pottsville club in the NFL. He also played professional baseball as a catcher with the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. Upon the conclusion of his playing days, he became an American League umpire and an official with the National Football League. In fact, Berry is the only man to have officiated the World Series, the NFL Championship and the College All-Star game in one year.
