Lester Lautenschlaeger was an aggressive heady playmaker who became the Green Wave's first All-American. Lester won the honor as a senior in 1925. In the opening game against Louisiana College, Lautenschlaeger scored four touchdowns as the Wave rolled to a 77-0 victory. Tulane rushed forward to finish 9-0-1, the lone blemish on the 1925 record coming in a 6-6 tie against Mississippi. In Lester's final two seasons, the Green Wave defeated 17 opponents, losing only to Mississippi State, 14-6 in 1924. Following graduation, Lautenschlaeger obtained his law degree and set up practice in New Orleans, doubling as an assistant coach at Tulane for ten seasons. He later served for 23 years as Director of the New Orleans Department of Recreation, a voluntary post which paid him a handsome salary of one dollar per year. At the same time, his law practice thrived and he remained active in numerous community affairs.
