Henry A. 'Ernie' Vick lettered four years in football at Michigan and was the starting center in 1920-21. In those years Michigan had a 10-3-1 record and out-scored its opponents 308-42. Vick was an outstanding blocker and tackler. His coach, Fielding Yost, said, ?He is the most accurate passer from center that has ever put a ball into play. Under pressure he was dependable at all times.? Walter Camp recognized and honored that consistent excellence. In selecting Vick as his 1921 All-America center Camp said, ?He is the only man who has throughout the season added great power and aggressiveness to steadiness and consistency.? High praise from a high source. Vick was a catcher in the St. Louis Cardinals baseball chain from 1922 through 1926, and appeared in 57 major league games. He became a college football official and worked Rose Bowl games. Vick was born July 2, 1900, in Toledo, Ohio; he died in 1980, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
