Jim McCormick ran with the wind, yet had a force and drive in his legs that left would-be tacklers limp after taking a swipe at his piston-pumping knees. He refused to accept defeat and, in fact, experienced it only six times during a brilliant career as the superstar in the Princeton backfield at the turn of the 20th Century. He became the tenth Princeton player in history to repeat as an All-American, winning the laurels in 1905 and 1907. He was a second team choice in 1906. The Tigers had a 9-0-1 record that year, their perfect record marred by a bitterly-contested scoreless tie with arch rival Yale in the final game of the season. Through his four varsity seasons, McCormick paced the Orange and Black to a 32-6-1 record. Princeton out-scored the competition, 716-77, over that span and McCormick contributed more than his share of points to the cause. McCormick was head coach at Princeton in 1909 with a 6-2-1 record.
