George Brown was a star athlete and straight A student at Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego. He played guard for Navy in 1942 and 1943 and was named All-America by the Associated Press in 1943. Brown played at 6-0, 200- pounds, and also was the intercollegiate shot put champion. He was regimental commander and received the Naval Academy sword for athletic excellence. After serving on the USS Indianapolis and on submarines during World War II, he entered San Diego State. With one year of college eligibility remaining, he played guard and linebacker for the Aztecs in 1947. He was made honorary captain and was named Most Valuable Player by his teammates. After his playing days, Brown entered Johns Hopkins Medical School. He opened a general practice in El Cajon, California. Dr. Brown served as team physician for San Diego State from 1969-1987
