At the time of his retirement, Ron Schipper had the
fourth highest career winning percentage in Division
III history at .808. He coached 36 consecutive
winning seasons and sustained the winningest college
football program in the United States from 1961-96.
Under Schipper, Central won 18 conference
championships and had 10 undefeated seasons. He led
the Dutch to 12 national playoff appearances, five
NCAA Division II West Region Championships, and in
1974 Central College won the Division III national
championship. His 287 career victories ranks second
in Division III history and eighth all-time at all
levels. In addition to coaching, he held Central's
athletic director post from 1964-93. He served as
the president of the American Football Coaches
Association, chair of the NCAA Division III Football
Committee, has conducted clinics overseas, and twice
coached a team of all-stars in the Aztec Bowl in
Mexico City. He served on various committees
including the NCAA Football Television Committee and
the NCAA Football Rules Committee.
