The "Golden Era" of Harvard football may have occurred during the coaching tenure of Percy Haughton when the Crimson had a 33-game unbeaten streak between 1911 and 1915. Huntington "Tack" Hardwick was a star performer for Harvard during this streak and was elected to the Hall of Fame in its second election (1954). Hardwick began his varsity career in 1912 as a halfback. He scored on a 60-yard run against Amherst and scored in Harvard's first victory over Princeton in 25 years. Against Yale, his jarring tackle caused a fumble which led to a touchdown and clinched an undefeated season. In 1913, he was moved to end to make room in the backfield for Eddie Mahan. Playing a new position he was honored by Walter Camp as a second team All-America. Hardwick completed an undefeated career in 1914. After the first two games of the season, backfield injuries forced Hardwick to return to halfback. Against Washington & Jefferson he scored all of Harvard's points in a 10-9 victory. In his senior year Hardwick was recognized as an All- America, joining four teammates on Camp's first team. In Hardwick's three seasons Harvard went 9-0, 9-0, 7-0-2. He was an artillery captain in World War I. In 1929 he helped found the Boston Garden. He was born October 15, 1892 and died June 26, 1949.
