Rugged, rapid afoot and possessing uncanny pass-catching talents, Jack O' Hearn was an end on one of the most potent Cornell teams of football's Pioneer Era. O'Hearn enjoyed stardom through three varsity seasons. He was the Big Red captain in 1914, a year in which Cornell broke from mediocrity into gridiron greatness. O'Hearn was named All-America by Walter Camp that season after playing a major role in an 8-2 campaign that included a valiant come-from-behind victory over highly regarded Michigan. Michigan had taken an early 13-0 lead when the Big Red finally came alive, scoring all of its points in the second half and roaring to a 28-13 upset. Indeed, that 1914 season was unusual. The Big Red had charted 3-7 and 5-4-1 records during the previous two years and opened the 1914 campaign with an early 1-2 record. However, Cornell staged a brilliant finish, winning the last seven games while out-scoring the competition, 223-38. O'Hearn died July 22, 1977, at age 83.
