Born in Everett, Washington, Gordon Hudson attended Kennewick High School in Kennewick, Washington, before he and his family moved to Utah for his senior year at Brighton High School in Salt Lake City.

A unanimous First Team All-American in 1982 and 1983, Hudson set NCAA records for most passes caught per game by a tight end (5.4), most career yard per game by a tight end (75.3) and most yards in a game by a tight end (259 vs. Utah).

While playing for College Football Hall of Fame Coach LaVell Edwards, Hudson led BYU to four WAC titles and three Holiday Bowl victories in four consecutive appearances.

During his sophomore season at BYU, Hudson caught passes from Hall of Famer Jim McMahon. That season, Hudson started at tight end and received All-WAC Second Team Honors as well as honorable mention All-America recognition. He tied the NCAA record for receptions by a tight end in a season with 67.

Hall of Famer Steve Young became the Cougars' starting quarterback during Hudson's junior season, when the tight end was the only unanimous All-WAC selection and earned the first of his consecutive unanimous First Team All-America laurels.

As a senior, he teamed with Young to haul in an NCAA-record 44 catches and six touchdowns in an injury-shortened season. And for the second straight year, Hudson earned All-WAC First Team and unanimous First-Team All-America honors.

Hudson was selected in the first round of the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He played two seasons with the Los Angeles Express of the USFL (1984-85) and one with the Seahawks (1986).

He was further involved in football as the offensive coordinator for the San Jose Sabercats in the AFL (1995-97) and head coach for the Utah Catzz in the PIFL (1998).

Hudson was the head coach for his son's Cottonwood Colts Little League football team in Holladay, Utah, for five seasons (2002-06), and he led the team to a win in the state championship for their age range in 2002. He also coached for the Northridge High School football team in Layton, Utah, for three seasons (2011-13).
