Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon) was a big-time football power when Lloyd Yoder played. Carnegie Tech played Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Penn State, and West Virginia. Known as "The Plaid Bull," Yoder lettered four years as a tackle and was captain in 1926. Carnegie's record was 21-11-2 in his time. That included three victories in four starts against Pittsburgh. In 1926 Carnegie pulled off the biggest upset of the season, beating Notre Dame 19-0. Going into the November 27 game, Notre Dame was 8-0, Carnegie 6-2. Yoder was named All- America in 1926. He played in the Shrine East-West game and was captain of the East team. In 1927 Yoder played for the Olympic Club in San Francisco. He again was named to the Shrine game, and this time he was captain of the West team. Yoder joined the National Broadcasting Company in 1927. He was with NBC 40 years, managing stations in San Francisco, Denver, Cleveland, and Chicago and holding the title of vice-president. He worked 25 years, 1928-52, as a football official. Yoder served in World War II as a lieutenant commander in the Navy. He was born July 13, 1903, in Salem, Ohio; he died November 30, 1967.
