Frank "Sunny" Sundstrom was a Cornell tackle known for being smart and quick off the mark. Sundstrom became a by- word in Cornell football during his three year career in which the Big Red went undefeated and untied for 24 straight games. Sundstrom was a key player in these games, knocking huge holes in the opposition's defense. Sundstrom demonstrated some of his outstanding abilities in the 1922 game against Cornell's traditional rivals, the Penn Quakers. Penn was favored, but Cornell backs George Pfann and Ed Kaw were finding plenty of holes in the Penn lines - put there by Sundstrom. Cornell beat Penn, 9-0, that Thanksgiving afternoon and it would be another two years before Penn managed a victory in the series. Only 5-11, and 190 pounds, Sundstrom was not only an explosive clear-the-way offensive blocker, but was also a flatten-them-before-they-cross-the- scrimmage-line defender and a dependable kicker. He made 24 extra points in 1923. That year he was named to Walter Camp's All-America team. After graduation, he served one year as assistant coach at Indiana. From 1925 through 1953 he was a stockbroker. He served as a New Jersey member of the U.S. House of Representatives 1943-49. Sundstrom was vice-president of Schenley Distillers 1954-69, then vice- president of the Tobacco Institute of America
