Glenn Killinger was a 125-pound football candidate when he first came to Penn State. He built his weight to 163-pounds and quickly displayed his leadership and judgment, earning a starting role as Penn State's quarterback. He led Penn State to unbeaten records in 1920 and 1921. In his senior year, Glenn and "Light Horse" Harry Wilson provided Penn State with the most potent backfield in the East. Killinger was named to Walter Camp's All-America team. Killinger captained Penn State football and basketball teams; he was on the baseball team and won 30 consecutive games as a pitcher. Killinger was head football coach at Dickinson College in 1922, assistant at Penn State 1923-26, head coach at Rensselaer Poly 1927-31, Moravian 1933, and West Chester 1934-41 and 1945-59. He served in the Navy in World War II, retiring as commander. At West Chester he won six conference championships, was in four bowl games, and had a record of 147-41-12. His overall record as head coach at four schools was 170-70-15. At West Chester he also was baseball coach and dean of men. The school dedicated a building in his name in 1968. Killinger was born September 13, 1898, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; he died January 25, 1988, at age 89.
