Hamilton Fish was born December 7, 1888. He was 6-4 in height, 200 pounds in weight, when he played tackle for Harvard 1907-09. He became acting captain of the 1908 team when the elected captain was injured. And he was the elected captain of the 1909 team. He was All-America twice, and in 1923 Walter Camp named him to his all-time All- America team. The Fish family story is one of great service. First came Nicholas Fish, a colonel in George Washington's army. His son, Hamilton, was in the U.S. House of Representatives 1843-45, then governor of New York. Next came another Hamilton Fish, serving in Congress 1909-11. Hamilton Fish, the Hall of Fame football player, commanded an all-black regiment in World War I. This unit was brilliant in combat, and its story was told in a 1977 movie, "Men of Bronze." Fish was national commander of the American Legion and was a representative in Congress from his New York district 1919-45. He died January 18, 1991, at age 102.
