Cecil Isbell played left halfback for Purdue 1935-37 and excelled as a runner, passer and punter. In 1936, he was responsible for 15 of Purdue's 23 touchdowns; in 1937, he received All-America mention. In 1938, he was named Most Valuable Player as the College All-Stars beat the Washington Redskins 28-16. He played for the Green Bay Packers 1938- 42 and went into coaching with the following history: 1943, assistant coach, Purdue; 1944-46, head coach, Purdue (with a 14-14-1 record); 1947-49, head coach, Baltimore Colts; 1950-51, assistant coach, Chicago Cardinals; 1952-53, assistant coach, Louisiana State. Isbell then became sales manager for a steel products firm in Milwaukee. He was born July 11, 1915, in Houston, Texas; he died June 23, 1985, in Hammond, Indiana. He had a brother, Cody, who played end at Purdue at the same time as Cecil.
