George Floyd was a four-year starter at defensive back for Eastern Kentucky 1978-81. He was named Division I-AA All-America in 1980 and 1981. He also was Defensive Player of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference in 1980. Floyd played for Roy Kidd, one of the most successful coaches in football history. The 1979 team won the national championship in I-AA, beating Lehigh 30-7 in the final playoff game. The next two teams were runners-up in the playoff, losing to Boise State 31-29 in 1980 and to Idaho State 34-23 in 1981. Floyd intercepted 22 passes in four years. Against Youngstown State in 1980 he ran 100 yards for a touchdown with an interception. He also served as punt return man for Eastern Kentucky. He played four years with the New York Jets, then launched a teaching career at Boone County (Ky.) High School
