Charles O. "Chuck" Carroll won 16 letters at Garfield High School in Seattle. He enrolled at the University of Washington and in his senior season, 1928, scored 17 touchdowns and was named to 12 All-America teams at halfback. He was the leading scorer in the Pacific Coast Conference in 1927-28. Pop Warner, Stanford coach, said, "I don't believe there is a better halfback in the entire United States. Carroll didn't display a weakness." Bill Leiser wrote of Carroll in the San Francisco Examiner: "A plugger of the first water on defense, a terror in all departments, even to passing." He graduated from law school, had a flourishing practice in Seattle, then entered the Army's Judge Advocate General's Department at the start of World War II. Five years later he was discharged with the rank of Colonel. He accepted an appointment as King County Prosecuting Attorney and served that office for 22 years. Carroll was born August 13, 1906, in Seattle. On January 7, 1971, he was honored at a testimonial dinner at which the speakers included the governor of Washington and the mayor of Seattle. He was praised for his service in law and community service. In 1928, Carroll scored 17 touchdowns, a school record against Puget Sound, a school record for one game. Washington had a 24-8 record in his three years. He died June 23, 2003, in Seattle.
